Position Summary | The Department of Music of the College of The Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, invites applications and nominations for the tenure-track position of Director of Choral Activities, Assistant Professor (9 month). The department enjoys endowments and private scholarship funds of approximately $1.5 million, annual university performance scholarships of $800,000, a Visiting Artist Series, and NASM accreditation. Many performances are presented in the state-of-the-art, 1200-seat, Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall; the new Windgate Center for the Fine and Performing Arts opens in January of 2023. The department serves approximately 220 majors and minors, 50 graduate students and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees: BA, BM (Composition, Performance, Piano Pedagogy, and Jazz and Studio Music), BME, and the MM (Performance, Music Education, Conducting, Theory). The faculty is composed of 33 full-time and approximately16 adjunct members, many of whom have national and international reputations. |
Job Duties and Responsibilities | The positions responsibilities include conducting the UCA Concert Choir and the select UCA Chamber Choir, both of which are auditioned ensembles. The DCA will be expected to spearhead all choral recruiting efforts, undergraduate and graduate, and oversee the overall choral performance program, including the non-auditioned Bass and Treble Choirs. Additionally, the position entails teaching the undergraduate Choral Conducting course and instructing all graduate offerings for the MM in the Choral Conducting program, including literature courses and choral conducting classes and recitals/Capstone. The Director of Choral Activities will provide leadership and vision for the current and future direction of the choral division of the Department in consultation with the Faculty and Chair of the Department of Music |

Required Education and/or Experience | Qualifications include the DMA in Choral Conducting (ABD will be considered for appointment), Ed.D., PhD, or equivalent, and significant university and K-12 music education experience, as well as professional and semi-professional choral work. The department is seeking a candidate with experience in working with a diverse student population. |
